Jake Lawrence, Third Base

DOUBLE AWARD WINNER!

Driving his expensive, new car from L.A. to New York, got Jake Lawrence’s, motor running. The third baseman hit the highway, ready for adventure.

Totally broke after her mother had gambled away all her money, Kate MacKenzie, aspiring musical theater star, sneaked out of her motel room. Stuck in the middle of nowhere with less than four dollars to her name, the plucky actress had no way to get to her Broadway audition.

Saving the beauty from a beating by the motel manager, Jake offered Kate a ride to Manhattan. Kate accepted. To preserve her dignity, she planned to keep the sexy slugger at arm’s length. Easier said than done.

Mutual attraction couldn’t derail the pair from their goals. Kate’s dream of making it on Broadway collided with Jake’s of making it to the World Series. Will their road trip lead to love? Or to a lonely existence of separation, and insecurity?

What readers are saying about Jake Lawrence, Third Base

on February 1, 2017

Of all the pairings in the Bottom of the Ninth series, the already successful third baseman and the up ‘n coming Broadway star really hit all the right buttons for me. I had a real sense that Jake and Kate were truly good matches: in talent, in drive, in commitment to their sport and their art, and with a grown-up understanding of how difficult a relationship can be when all the forces that go with success and the job align against them. This is a tale of finding common ground, rather than pursuing the old trope of the woman sacrificing her goals when love comes calling. I admit it, I did a few fist pumps when Kate proves over and over that she’s exactly where and who she needs to be.

It took time to win me over to Jake, but once I did, it was full steam ahead. As for Kate, well, she’s my kind of heroine. The relationship sizzles from the get-go, but nothing is set in stone, and there are all kinds of hiccoughs along the way to keep you glued to the page.

No doubt about it, Jake Lawrence Third Baseman is my favorite in this series so far.
